In early winter of 2024, I rented an electric vehicle.

What I thought would be a simple, smooth experience turned into one of the most frustrating days I’d had in a long time — and it opened my eyes to a problem that thousands of drivers face every single day.

I needed to charge the car before returning it, so I trusted my GPS and headed to the nearest charging station. It took me to a school… a school I clearly didn’t attend. The charger was on private property, and I couldn’t access it.

So I tried again.

Next stop — Target. Every charger was occupied. Another Target — same story. Full.

By now, time was ticking, the cold Chicago air was biting, and my anxiety was rising. I finally found another charger that was available… but it charged so slowly that I couldn’t get enough power before my return time. I ended up paying extra fees simply because I couldn’t charge the vehicle fast enough.

That day wasn’t just inconvenient. It was eye-opening.

Because I realized something important — this isn’t just about finding a charger.

It’s about access.
It’s about infrastructure.
It’s about equity.
It’s about real people trying to live sustainably but being unsupported by the systems around them.

When I shared this experience with my mother, we started talking about what we were seeing in our own community here in Chicago. As two women living in a city where EV adoption is growing but charging access is uneven, we noticed something bigger: Entire neighborhoods and residential communities were being left behind.

Driver's want to go electric. Property managers want to support their residents. Cities want cleaner air. But the infrastructure simply wasn’t keeping up.

That’s when Green Konnecxion was born.

We decided we wouldn’t just talk about the problem — we would become part of the solution.
